The Charity Foundation Foodbank Rus reached the final of the contest “City of Caring. Mentors” in the Environment category. The jury and Muscovites selected the most striking stories about mentoring among 67 applications as part of the contest arranged by a network of NPO co-working centers.
The background of Foodbank Rus was recognized as one of the most significant and interesting projects: over 8,000 people voted for it. The winners were awarded a banner placement at the photo exhibition in the Hermitage Garden, on Rozhdestvensky Boulevard, and in Khodynskoye Pole Park.
Anna Alieva-Hrustalyova, Vice President of the Charity Foundation Foodbank Rus: “You got extra food? Don't throw it away, share it with someone who needs it instead. This is called food sharing. At Foodbank Rus, we have been developing food sharing for more than a decade now: manufacturers, cafes, farms, and supermarkets give us high-quality food that remained unclaimed for various reasons: a drop in demand, failed logistics, etc. If not for food sharing, all this perfect food would have been disposed of, which is unfair and irrational. Foodbank Rus accepts food from businesses and distributes it to families with children and single pensioners in difficult life situations. This way, food sharing benefits both people and environment. Our team strives to scale food sharing and waste as little food as possible. For this purpose, we share our experience with colleagues all over the country by supervising local Foodbank Rus and advising our partner NPOs in 60 regions. We also launched an educational media project About Food Sharing in order to teach everyone how to reduce food waste.”
