Foodbank Rus is launching the first media project about food sharing and reasonable consumption for the business community and environmental enthusiasts in Russia, the EAEU and the CIS member states. The project About Food Sharing will combine a website профудшеринг.рф, a news digest, and a Telegram channel About | Food Sharing.
One third of all the food in the world ends up in landfills, and so do water, land, energy, and labor used for food production. Over 17 mln tons of food are thrown away in Russia every year, while social tension is growing. Approximately 20 mln people cannot afford even basic food and necessities.
Food sharing is the oldest social and environmental technology, which allows for the reasonable use of resources and reduces industrial and food waste, on the one hand, and improves the quality of life of people and ensures food security in the country, on the other hand. It works as follows: businesses pass over high-quality food that remains unclaimed for various reasons to food banks and food sharing organizations. In their turn, the latter distribute free food to those who need it most: families in difficult situations, lonely pensioners, and people with disabilities.
Food sharing allows to feed everyone in need and slow down the growth of landfills without attracting a fortune from the state budget. Food sharing is an economic miracle and should become an integral part of the life of modern society. We created the media project About Food Sharing in order to popularize food sharing and reasonable consumption.
Anna Alieva-Hrustalyova, Vice President of the Charity Foundation Foodbank Rus: “Large transnational corporations whose policies are based on the principles of sustainable development are reducing their support for political reasons. Russian companies do so due to the economic situation. Educational and awareness-raising projects and support for severely ill people have been affected most.”
The профудшеринг.рф website is intended for representatives of business related to the formation of corporate social responsibility policies. Using expert materials and current news, the project team is going to train managers, entrepreneurs, and officials in the principles of food sharing and the closed-loop economy, share business cases on the implementation of food sharing, introduce specialized NPOs and research on the reasonable use of resources, as well as keep them updated on changes in legislation.
The media project will become a platform to share experiences and opinions of experts in sustainable development, unite efforts to integrate food sharing into the domestic economy, and accelerate positive changes in society.
Yulia Nazarova, President of the Charity Foundation Foodbank Rus: “Foodbank Rus has been developing food sharing in Russia for over a decade now. More than 70 international and Russian global tasks have been solved: creating an infrastructure for food banks and food sharing organizations and eliminating tax barriers. About Food Sharing will help attract the attention of government and representative institutions, industry-specific, business, and expert communities to the prospects of food sharing.”
Telegram channel About | Food Sharing will become a meeting place for all conscious people ready to apply the principles of reasonable consumption in their lives here and now. They will find waste-free recipes on the channel, get acquainted with food sharing organizations in their region, meet like-minded people who advocate for reasonable consumption among celebrities, and also get inspired for creating their own startups in the cost-effective use of resources.
The About Food Sharing project is being implemented with grant funds. Foodbank Rus is going to raise private donations and those from businesses for the further development of the project.
