More than 700 Families in Rostov Oblast Were Given Charity Cards for Purchases

Foodbank Rus jointly with X5 Group provided 714 families in need in Rostov Oblast with “Basket of Kindness” charity cards to buy goods in Perekrestok shops. Help was provided within an online collection of cash donations that was launched in January at корзинадоброты.рф. The campaign coincides with World Day of Social Justice.

As a result of the online collection, multi-child and disadvantaged families in Rostov and Rostov Oblast received “Basket of Kindness” charity cards within the PRODkarta programme of Foodbank Rus. Under this programme, cash donations are converted into points and credited to cards that can be used to make purchases at the Foundation's partner shops.

Each issued “Basket of Kindness” charity card is credited with points equivalent to 1,000 roubles. The card enables donees to buy goods of 14 categories from Perekrestok retail chain, including groceries, soft drinks, frozen food, confectionery, canned food, delicatessen foods, dairy products, meat products, fish products, fruit, vegetables and mushrooms, bread and pastries, baby food, tea, coffee and cocoa, hygiene products. Each family compiles a shopping list of its own.

There are some families in the Rostov branch of Foodbank Rus who need baby food or nappies at the moment. And some families cannot afford meat, as they do not have additional resources. The charity card enables a particular family to buy exactly those goods that it needs right now.

Following the results of an online collection of cash donations on the корзинадоброты.рф website, Foodbank Rus usually purchases food with the funds collected and brings it to the warehouse where volunteers form food parcels for people in need. PRODkarta technology shortens time from collection of cash donations to providing a particular family with help by eliminating purchasing, transporting, packing, and targeted delivery of kits. It is the first time such format has been used within the “Basket of Kindness” project.

X5 Group added 30% to the collected donations and also took care of all organisational costs related to the campaign.

The корзинадоброты.рф online charity project was launched by X5 and Foodbank Rus in late 2017. About 410,000 users visited the website and made more than 23,000 of donations since its launch. So 18,320 kits were collected for 7,180 families in need in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Kurgan, Sverdlovsk, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Voronezh, Moscow, Leningrad, Vladimir, Lipetsk, Vologda, and Ulyanovsk Oblasts.
