Story Behind Foodbank Rus

Foodbank Rus is the first food sharing organization and the largest food bank in Russia, part of the Global FoodBanking Network.

We started developing food sharing technology in Russia when hardly anyone was thinking about sustainable development and environmental issues.

We launched a virtual model of the first food bank in Russia, based on industrial food sharing technology, back in 2012.

This is a technology of redistributing good food and basic necessities that were unsold by business among people in need.

Industrial food sharing allows to redistribute large volumes of products from manufacturing companies and distributors.

Retail food sharing means distribution of small but regular volumes from cafes, restaurants, and stores.

Agrifood sharing is sorting and collecting fruits and vegetables that are not in demand by agricultural enterprises.

Our model and technology turned out to be very efficient at the stage of the food bank launch: they allowed to quickly streamline processes and scale activities all over the country. We built a team in Moscow who picked up food from the manufacturers anywhere in Russia and distributed it to people. This had to be done as quickly as possible, without unnecessary warehousing, literally “from wheels.”

We continue to develop food sharing technology in Russia in partnership with large businesses and scale the food bank volumes.
