More Than 7000 Food Packages Were Collected by Residents of the Capital for Old People in the Outback

On November 30, 2019, Foodbank Rus together with X5 Retail Group held an unprecedented social event—the citywide marathon “Basket of Kindness”. In all the capital’s Pyaterochka stores this Saturday, the Foundation’s volunteers offered customers to become benefactors and help lonely old people. In particular, the list of products for food aid includes products with long shelf live: canned food, sugar, sunflower oil, cereals, flour, confectionery, tea.

In total, the joint campaign managed to collect about 43 tons of products, from which volunteers to collect food aid for single retired persons formed 7150 sets. More than 800 volunteers of the charity Fund Foodbank Rus together with University students, pupils and activists of the capital’s public organizations took part in the organization and holding of the event.

Food gifts from volunteers have already been sent to grandparents living in villages and small towns, in Moscow, Vladimir, Kaluga, Bryansk, Tver, Tula, Oryol, Voronezh, Smolensk, Yaroslavl, Ryazan and Lipetsk regions.

X5 Retail Group will add another 30% to the food collected with the help of concerned citizens. Raven Property Group, together with RosLogistics, provided a warehouse where volunteers collected food packages for old persons in need for free, and organized conditions for working there, while the Tsargrad TV channel provided media support to the marathon.

The project was implemented using a Grant from the President of the Russian Federation with the support of the Federal Agency for youth Affairs, the Union of rural youth of Russia, the organization Mosvolonter (#volonterymosk), Essity companies, and Raven Property Group. Information support for the marathon was provided by Mir, Soyuz, Vera radio, Rossiya radio, Echo of Moscow radio, and Vechernaya Moskva newspaper.
